“Easier, faster, more convenient.” Thanks to modern technology, this statement applies to everything from buying groceries (InstaCart), to ordering dinner (UberEats) to watching movies (Netflix). And now at Detroit LASIK and Eye Care provider Lake Lazer Eye Center, the latest tech advancements allow you to take advantage of an easier, faster, more convenient eye exam.
Lake Lazer Eye Center is thrilled to be the first in Michigan to offer our patients the new Chronos Automated Binocular Refraction System (ABRS). The technology allows us to streamline eye examinations while improving the accuracy of your eye exam.
“Chronos combines several diagnostic technologies into one, compact unit. Our patients don’t have to hop between four different machines for a thorough eye exam,” says Shabbir Khambati, MD, founder of Lake Lazer. “This unit allows us to perform vision tests quickly on both eyes at once – and it’s extremely accurate. So, we can give our patients a greater degree of satisfaction with eyeglass prescriptions in less time.”
Chronos technology was developed by Topcon Healthcare, a leading global provider of medical devices and software solutions for eye care.
What is Chronos?
The Chronos Automated Binocular Refraction System combines the functionality of testing technologies into one unit that can perform several tests at once:
Binocular autorefraction
Keratometry measurements
Binocular subjective testing
Visual acuity testing chart
Chronos ABRS unites these essential functions in a compact device that occupies less than four feet of space. That’s space we can then utilize for other equipment and functions that benefit our patients.
How Chronos Works
The fully automated Chronos system is guided by SightPilot®, an intuitive software that guides the operator step-by-step through a quick and precise examination.
“We can use a laptop, desktop or tablet to operate Chronos, even from another room. The software makes it very easy for a technician to start the exam and follow on-screen prompts through the process,” Dr. Khambati says.
At each step, the operator is given instructions to proceed with the refraction, based on the patient’s response.
Chronos Advantages for You
In addition to full automation, Chronos testing technology offers a number of other important advantages to our practice, and of course, to our patients:
- Unlike traditional refraction, Chronos performs acuity testing on both eyes at the same time (binocular), to better simulate your vision in the real world.
- You can complete your exam without moving to multiple instruments and adjusting each one for comfort, leading to a quicker exam.
- Our team can refract with greater efficiency and accuracy, ensuring that you receive an eyeglasses prescription that helps you see your best.
- Your current prescription can be uploaded to Chronos and compared to your new prescription to help you make a better purchasing decision.
- The system is Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant and easy to adjust for every patient’s comfort.
